In this one-hour webinar, funded by CPA Ontario and the Schulich CPA Ontario Centre in Digital Financial Information, we will discuss technology's role in the audit expectation gap. Specifically, we will discuss how, when, where, and why technology is used in conducting current audits in the context of the public's expectations of financial statement audits.

About the Presenter
Dr. Colleen M. Boland is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she teaches accounting information systems. She earned her Ph.D. in Accounting from Michigan State University. Dr. Boland began her career in public accounting in Milwaukee with PricewaterhouseCoopers.  She also worked with EY and Crowe Horwath before starting her virtual practice supporting nonprofit organizations, primarily conducting internal control audits in compliance with Single Audit requirements and guiding various-sized nonprofit and governmental organizations' senior management and boards of directors. Dr. Boland was a Senior Economic Research Fellow in the Office of Economic and Risk Analysis at the PCAOB between  August 2019 and June 2021, studying technology and the audit. Her research interests include the impact of technology on the audit, auditing standard setting, internal controls, corporate governance, and audit and auditor quality. She has published in Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Management Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Issues in Accounting Education, and Current Issues in Auditing.​​​​​​​
